Maruti Eeco witnesses increasing demand

At the Auto Expo 2010 Maruti has launched Eeco an upgraded version of its age-old Omni model. Maruti is hoping that Maruti Eeco will very soon witness a good demand in the market. CV Raman, Maruti's chief general manager for engineering research, design and development said that they had seen demand for Eeco growing since its launch from users of Omni and new customers who were looking for a family car with more space and comfort. The customers demand to swap Omni with Eeco was an encouraging sign for them to pitch bookings, he added.
Though Maruti Omni has been used more as a taxi rather than a commercial vehicle, the company has planned to position Eeco as a family car with five-seater and seven-seater options. The Omni van was launched in 1985 and sold about a million units over the last 25 years despite competition from multi-utility vehicles. According to Raman about 30 percent of Omni customers had been exchanging their old vans with newer versions and it is expected that it would continue with Eeco.

Maruti has targeted to sell 40,000 Eeco units in the first full year of operations (2010-11). The vehicle is priced at Rs 269,263 for the five-seater and Rs 285,259 for the seven-seater in Bangalore. Maruti Eeco is complied with ELV (end of life for vehicles) and also conformed to the latest emission norms (Bharat Stage IV)
