New Car: 2011 Mercedes M-Class Grand Edition

No one would call the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class lacking in the luxury department, but that didn’t stop Mercedes-Benz from introducing the M-Class Grand Edition for its European clientele.

True to its name, the Grand Edition package dressed up the M-Class’ exterior in a grandiose fashion. Grand Edition M-Class models come standard with unique 19-inch Y-spoke aluminum wheels, although 20-inch rollers are optional. Brightly polished aluminum roof rails complement an exterior chrome package, and contrast with the darkly tinted windows and smoked headlamp housings. Mercedes-Benz’s power dome hood -- typically a sign of a V-8-powered M-Class -- can be ordered on any Grand Edition model, regardless of its powertrain.

Inside, passengers are greeted with a plush interior. Artificial leather hides are used to trim both the dashboard and the seating, the latter accented with contrasting stitching and piping. Unless customers opt for a full leather interior, the only real leather used in the Grand Edition’s cabin is found on the door panel inserts. An AMG sports steering wheel with stainless steel shift paddles is standard, as are sports pedals fabricated from brushed stainless steel.

Save for the potent ML63 AMG, the Grand Edition can be ordered on any Euro-Spec M-Class. Pricing varies based upon the options added, but the package adds at least €4000 ($5200) to the window sticker.
