New Car: 2011 Ram Outdoorsman

According to Ram Trucks, many of its customers use their pickups as intended, for hauling and towing and enjoying the outdoors. In order to satisfy those pickup buyers who get off the trail to commune with nature, Ram has introduced the 2011 Ram Outdoorsman.

The new Outdoorsman model is available in a number of cab and wheelbase variations including 1500, 2500, and 3500 single-wheel varieties, in either rear- or four-wheel drive. Ram incorporated a number of unique items to make the truck more usable to Ram's avid hunters, fishermen, boaters, and camping enthusiasts.

One of the neatest features of the new model is the RamBox Holster. It's a gun and fishing rod holster designed to slip into the side-mounted RamBoxes and hold either two rifles or up to six fishing rods. Knowing the Outdoorsman's likely customer base, Ram made a Class IV trailer hitch receiver standard. Ram offers both four- and seven-pin harnesses for full trailer wiring compatibility. An integrated trailer brake controller is optional on 1500 Outdoorsman models and standard on 2500 and 3500 trucks.

In addition to equipping the truck for towing, hunting, and fishing, Ram made the Outdoorsman slightly more off-road-capable than standard Ram models. The Outdoorsman's tires feature stronger sidewalls to better resist off-road punctures and handle higher payloads. The tires are also designed for optimum grip when traveling off-road.

Ram also developed a special appearance package for the Outdoorsman models to differentiate them from run-of-the-mill Rams, as well as protect the truck from abuse. Ram added new scratch-resistant steel bumpers to withstand the beatings suffered off-road and black door handles that minimize glare and show scratches less than the standard chrome handles. A two-tone paint job and special wheel lips moldings complete the changes.

The new Ram Outdoorsman model hits dealerships later this fall, just in time for hunting season. It starts at $28,350, including destination.
