Recall Up Date: 2003 - 2011 Dodge Ram

Dodge is recalling more than 240,000 Rams sold in the U.S. between 2003 and 2011 for issues with the front left steering assembly, which could fracture and lead to a low-speed crash. The recall is for more than 280,000 vehicles in all when Canada and Mexico are added to the mix.

Tie Rod Assembly on Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks

The Problem: Dodge is recalling Ram pickup trucks that utilize the “cross car” reverse pin tie rod assembly. It includes the 2008 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4×4, the 2008-2011 2500 and 3500 4×4, the Ram 3500 Cab Chassis 4×2, and any 2003-2008 Ram 2500 or 3500 models that received the new linkage as a result of servicing.

The vehicles can experience a fracture of the left tie rod ball stud, which would most likely happen during low-speed, high-stress maneuvers such as driving around a parking lot. A fracture would result in the left front wheel losing directional stability, which could lead to a crash.

The Fix: Dodge will inspect tie rod orientation, replace the left outer tie rod if needed, and potentially perform a front-end toe alignment. Dodge has not yet released its plans to contact Ram owners, but owners are free to contact Dodge at 1-800-853-1403.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 242,780 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, 2003-2011 Dodge Ram 2500, and 2003-2011 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup trucks.
