Nissan's new MPV to compete with Toyota Innova

Nissan Motors plans to being an all new multi purpose vehicle (MPV) in India, Nissan NV200 to win over the market leader Toyota Innova. The Japanese auto brand will also bring other car models from the company's already established brands globally.


Kiminobu Tokuyama, the Managing Director & CEO, in Nissan Motors India, throwing light on its future plans said that they plan to launch the all new multi purpose vehicle (MPV) in partnership with Ashok Leyland by 2012. The new MPV model possibly the Nissan NV200 will be competing with the likes of Toyota Innova which is currently leading the MPV segment. Mr Tokuyama revealed the news after the launch of Nissan Micra diesel version. He further said that, the Japanese auto makers are planning to spread across the Indian auto market. The company will increase the count of its car model in India by adding five new car models by 2012. Currently, Nissan in India rules the car market with four car models Nissan 370Z, Nissan Teana, Nissan Micra and Nissan X-Trail.

Tokuyama, without revealing the time span said that the company will vastly expand its production capacity from the current 2 lakh cars annually. He also mentioned that the company will invest about Rs 2,200 crore in the later stage of its expansion at the Chennai manufacturing unit.

Nissan Motors with Renault stamped on an MoU with the government of Tamil Nadu to start a production facility at the Oragandam, which is near to Chennai, putting Rs 4,500 crore for more than seven years of time.
Nissan is planning to vastly expand in India. The company also plans to manufacture Nissan Teana on semi knocked-down unit (SKD) basis which will reduce the price of the car. Currently, the luxury sedan comes in completely built-up unit in India which has an import duty of 60 per cent, after the semi knocked down unit the import duty will be only 10 per cent which will greatly affect the price of the car.
