New Concept Car: Renault Frendzy

Can you ever make a car-based van desirable? That’s the challenge taken up by Renault’s latest concept – the FRENDZY.

The newcomer will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and is designed as an all-in-one solution for drivers who need a vehicle for business use during the week and for transporting the family on the weekend.

It’s the fourth in a range of six concepts penned to introduce Renault’s new design language, first shown with the DeZir sports car, Captur crossover and R-Space MPV. They are designed to represent ‘passion’, ‘exploration’ and ‘family’ respectively – with the FRENDZY designed for ‘work’.

All new models get a curvaceous new design that includes the new Renault family face – that means a full width grille and oversized badge.

On the passenger side, there's a full sliding door that incorporates a 37-inch screen that can be used for displaying messages, information or advertising. The driver’s side is focused more on a family's needs and gets a rear-opening door to aid access to the cabin.

On the inside, there’s a large cargo area complete with magnetic fixings and a fabric roof which adapts to the shape of bulky objects. A one-piece bench folds out of the floor when carrying passengers.

Power comes from the same all-electric drivetrain used in the Kangoo Z.E meaning 59bhp and a range of around 100 miles. Renault has worked with Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique / Musique (IRCAM) to produce bespoke sounds for the silent-running vehicle. For more details click here.
