Skoda 'SK215' to be launched in 2011

Skoda, a fully owned subsidiary of Volkswagen, the German automobile manufacturer is planning to come with an all new sedan or a small hatchback car, in the Indian auto market. Skoda Auto India, came in India in November 2001. The company set up a facility in Shendra, near Auangabad. Skoda collaborated with Volkswagen in 1991, it was a strategic move from the Czech government.


Rumours are strong that, Skoda is keen on introducing a new car either in hatchback segment or it will be an entry level sedan which will be below Skoda Octavia. The car has been coded as “SK215” which is anticipated to be available in India most probably in the last quarter of 2011.

As per the sources from Skoda, the new car will be a sedan which will fill the white space below Skoda Octavia. The new car SK215 will be made in the same lines as Skoda Fabia. It is also being speculated that, the sedan will give a tough competition to its contemporaries like Honda City, the Fiat Linea, the Volkswagen Vento and the Hyundai Verna.

The new sedan SK215, is speculated to come with 1.6 litre engine from the Volkswagen family, and its is also speculated that a 1.6 litre TD CR engine may be affixed, which was recently seen in the Volkswagen Vento. As per the sources, the price of SK215 will be in between Rs 8- Rs 10 lacs. Thomas Kuehl, the Board Member, Sales & Marketing, of Skoda India, said with confidence that, Skoda will soon emerge again and will come with competitive products which will place them at the numero uno position again. The company is making extensive strategies and plans, as Skoda wants to utilize the market potential and wants to enjoy a meaty chunk of the Indian automobile market.

The strategy which is used by Skoda India is that, the company is launching cars in various segments. Last month, the company, launched the all new Skoda Fabia and is now planning to soon introduced Skoda Yeti, the mini SUV, in this month.

Skoda and Volkswagen entered the Indian auto market in 2001, which proved to be highly profitable. The companies have been benefiting rom the Indian auto market for a long time now.
