Aston Martin has dropped a new supercar on the automotive world, with the announcement of the One-77, a limited-edition model of which, you guessed it, just 77 examples will be built. According to an Autocar report and interview with Aston Martin's David Richards, the car will represent the ultimate owner experience, in that many aspects of the car will be individually specified.
With a lightweight, rigid, carbon fiber chassis, aluminum body panels, and a 7.0-liter V-12 that is said to produce in the neighborhood of 650 horsepower, the new Aston should be a barnstormer in the performance arena. Early estimates peg the One-77 to have a top speed of 220 mph, while dispatching the 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 3.5 seconds. Weight will be pared down to just 3300 pounds - paltry for an Aston - but the cost will be stratospheric; early estimates peg the One-77 to fetch 1.2 million GBP ($2.4 million).
From what we can see of the Aston-supplied image, the car retains a familiar profile, but gains a more muscular stance than any of the automaker's current production vehicles. Side strakes aft of the front wheelarches and massive rear fenders offer an almost cat-like appearance, as if the One-77 could actually pounce on unsuspecting prey.
According to Autocar, the U.K.-based luxury sports car manufacturer has already identified approximately 500 customers who may be interested in the One-77, and will show a demonstrator to each, at their private residences. Due to the car's level of customization, each will be optimized for its new owner with full access to Aston Martin's design team and engineering staff.
There is no word yet regarding the car's global availability or when the One-77 might make its public debut, but we'll keep you informed as the story unfolds.
