New Car: 2012 Aston Martin Cygnet White and Black

Aston Martin will launch its Cygnet city car with this pair of special editions, called White and Black, the firm has announced.

The new model - a reworked version of Toyota’s iQ - will be offered with matt stripes and chrome brightwork on the white version, and matt black louvres on the black car . The standard transmission will be a manual, although Aston will also offer the car with a CVT; the motor will be the iQ’s more potent unit, a 1.33 petrol, producing 97bhp and 92lb ft of torque.

Aston says the car can accelerate to 62mph in 11.8sec with a manual box, while returning 56.5mpg and emitting 116g/km of CO2. The CVT can hit 62mph in 11.6sec; its fuel consumption is 54.3mpg, and it emits 120g/km of CO2.

The Cygnet gets 16in diamond-turned alloy wheels as standard, fitted with 175/60 R16 tyres.

Aston is placing great emphasis on the car’s interiors - to the point of describing the vehicle as ‘Handcrafted in England’ on the door sill plates - so they get lots of leather and plenty of visible stitching, particularly around the heavily revised centre console. The roof lining is completed in Alcantara, too.

Both of the new models will come with a bespoke Bill Amberg five-piece luggage set, comprising a glove box bag, removable door pocket bag, holdall, garment bag and collapsable tote bag.

Other standard kit includes a removable sat-nav system (produced by Garmin, judging from Aston's images), keyless entry and start, and a garage door-opening rear-view mirror.

Aston has confirmed the White and Black editions will cost from £30,995, an increase of more than £20,000 .

over the entry-level Toyota iQ. Production of the Cygnet White and Black will start in April but the order book is already open.
