Im Gegensatz zu einem konventionellen Hybridfahrzeug fährt der Ampera ausschließlich elektrisch, solange die mitgeführten Akkus ausreichend geladen sind. Der eingebaute Verbrennungsmotor dient lediglich zum Nachladen der Batterien, sobald diese weitgehend entladen sind; er wird daher auch Range Extender genannt. Der Verbrennungsmotor wird als Generator für den elektrischen Antrieb verwendet, da er auf diese Weise geschwindigkeitsunabhängig mit konstanter Drehzahl ständig im optimalen Betriebspunkt laufen kann. Diese Betriebsart ist meist effizienter als ein direkter Antrieb auf die Antriebsräder.
Der Elektromotor des Opel Ampera soll 110 kWund ein Drehmoment von 370 Nm haben. Zum Vergleich: der 1,8-l-Benzinmotor mit 103 kW (140 PS) des Opel Insignia hat 175 Nm, der 2,8-l-Motor mit 190 kW (260 PS) hat 350 Nm. Zudem liegt das volle Drehmoment bei einem Elektromotor bereits im Stand an, während ein Verbrennungsmotor das volle Drehmoment nur bei einer bestimmten Drehzahl liefern kann.
Die 16 kWh fassende Lithium-Ionen-Batterie soll genug Energie für eine Fahrstrecke von 60 Kilometer speichernAuf längeren Strecken wird der Verbrennungsmotor als Generator für die Lithium-Ionen-Batterie automatisch zugeschaltet, wodurch sich die Reichweite auf bis zu 500 Kilometer vergrößert. Der Verbrennungsmotor eignet sich sowohl für Benzin als auch E 85.
Die Beschleunigung von 0 auf 100 km/h erfolgt in 9 Sekunden, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit beträgt 161 km/h.
Den Verbrauch gibt der Hersteller mit 1,6 l/100 km für die ersten 100 km an, jede weiteren 100 km ohne zwischenzeitliche Akkuladung werden mit ca. 4,8 l/100km angegeben.
Der Ampera soll ab dem vierten Quartal 2011 ausgeliefert werden und 42 900 Euro kosten.

Chevrolet Beat LPG to be launched In Feb First Week

General Motors recently launched 'Smartech', the1.2 litre petrol engine the first made in India mill and now it is being learnt that the US auto giant is all set to launch its hatchback Chevrolet Beat in LPG version to be later followed by diesel version of the same.
Karl Slym who was present for the launch of the new powertrain made various announcements which indicate that the GM India wishes to cement its position in the domestic auto market. It is being learnt that the new LPG version of Chevrolet Beat will land on the Indian shores in the beginning of the next week. As per reliable sources, the new car model will be priced higher than the petrol version. However, its ensures that the LPG will deliver better fuel efficiency. It is being speculated that the LPG version will be the best offering of this time due to increasing petrol prices.
The new Chevrolet Beat LPG version will be available as a dual fuel car just like one of its rivals Maruti Wagon R. This technology ensures that the drivers can switch between petrol and LPG as per their convenience. Besides the Chevrolet Beat, It is being speculated that Chevrolet Beat diesel will be launched by June-July 2011

Chevrolet Beat diesel engine, is expected to have under one litre engine mated with three cylinder CRDI unit. As per the speculations the diesel version is assumed to be Rs 50,0000 expensive than the petrol version.
Mr Slym also declared that by April 2011, the company will unfold its concept electric car for India and also a smaller SUV will be placed before Chevrolet Captiva. There are speculations that the new electric car is on the same line of the Chevrolet Spark electric version which at present has been shelved due to Mahindra Reva. The compact SUV will pitch against Tata Aria the Indian crossover and the yet to be launched Mahindra W210 World SUV. However, there are high assumptions that Chevrolet Volt and Chevrolet Camaro will be introduced too.
These cars may take some time to land in India as till the time GM launches Right hand Drive versions. However GM will come with 6 new car models in the coming two years time. It is being learnt that Chevrolet Sonic, sedan and the hatchback is expected to be replaced by Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet U-VA.

General Motors Autoworld Indonesia (GMAI) atau GM Indonesia,- ATPM Chevrolet - tahun ini menargetkan penjualan 6.000 unit. Hal tersebut dikemukakan oleh Debrora Amelia Santoso, Direktur Pemasaran dan Humas GMAI, di saat konferensi pers ketika meluncurkan Captiva SS di sirkuit Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten, akhir minggu lalu.
Dijelaskan, kontribusi terbesarkan penjualan Chevrolet di Indonesia tetap pada Captiva, yaitu 70 persen. “Tahun lalu, kita memperoleh kenaikan besar dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya. Jadi kita berharap tahun ini juga naik,” jelas Amelia yang didamping beberapa direktur lain mewakili Mukiat Sutikno, Direktur Pengelola (Managing Director) GMAI, yang berhalangan hadir karena sakit liver.
Tahun lalu, , penjualan ritel Chevrolet di Indonesia mencapai 4.354 unit yang terdiri dari Captiva (4x2 dan 4x4), Spark, Cruze dan sedan khusus untuk taksi, yaitu Lova dan Kalos, kebagian 0,58 persen dari total ritel Indonesia 2010, mencapai 745.392 unit.
Kendati porsi Chevrolet relatif kecil, namun tahun lalu memperoleh kenaikan penjualan 63 persen dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya (2009), dengan penjualan 2.670 unit. Tahun lalu, penjualan Chevrolet juga meningkatkan karena peluncuran model baru di segmen mobil sub-komapk, Spark, selama 6 bulan 2010 terjual 551 unit.
Captiva andalan Chevrolet, kategori  non-sedan atas (high ) atau SUV, terdiri dua varian utama, yaitu 4x2 dan 4x4. Total penjualan ritel Captiva tahun lalu 2.115 unit atau menyumbang 48,5 persen penjualan Chevrolet di Indonesia.
Untuk versi 4x2 yang menggunakan mesin bensin, penjualan mencapai 1.784 unit atau di kategorinya mempeoleh pangsa 4,1 persen dari total penjualan SUV atas, 43.193 unit. Sedangkan versi 4x4,  yaitu 331 unit, Captiva memperoleh 49,1 persen dari total penjualan 674 unit.
Untuk sedan, termasuk taksi, dengan mengandalkan Lova dan kalos, GM berhasil menempatkan posisi empat di bawah Toyota, Honda dan Mercedes dengan penjualan 1.580 unit.
