Spied: 2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Shooting Brake

Ferrari has been doing a relatively good job keeping its future products under wraps, but that hasn’t stopped our spy shooters from snapping off these photos of the successor to the current 612 Scaglietti. As the brand’s most luxury- and comfort-oriented grand tourer, the next-gen car (codenamed F151) will retain the current model’s “2+2” seating arrangement while increasing interior space and performance.

It is widely reported that Ferrari’s newest grand touring machine will feature an all-wheel-drive platform and is being designed to allow for a hybrid drivetrain at some point in the future (likely based off of the Hy-KERS concept). We also know the F151 will continue with a V-12 up front, likely adopting direct injection and boasting significantly more power than the current car’s 533 horses (at least 600 horsepower is expected). A dual-clutch transmission will top the list of changes that bring the car into the new decade.

Perhaps the largest yet-unanswered question is what form the F151’s body will take. Some are adamant that the car will retain a coupe-like profile, with a sloping rear window similar to the 612. Others insist that new shooting brake style bodywork will be offered, giving the new Ferrari the practicality of a hatchback. While these photos suggest the latter, we suspect that much of this tester’s humpbacked appearance is courtesy of some well-placed camouflage designed to throw us all off the trail. Nevertheless, we’re expecting to see the F151 concept at the Geneva show this March wearing shooting brake sheetmetal, while the actual production car coming later in the year (possibly at Frankfurt) should be styled as a coupe.
