Mercedes’ SLK63 AMG has been caught on test, and it’s set to be the hottest SLK ever!
Our spy photographers snapped the fast Merc being put through its paces on Germany’s Nurburgring circuit ahead of its projected launch in 2012.
Most of the car still lurks under heavy cladding, but the quadruple exhausts, larger-diameter wheels fitted with cross-drilled brakes give enough hints that this is the AMG model.
Speculation on what’s under the bonnet has mainly focused upon the company’s latest 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8, but there are rumours that a twin-turbo V6 is also being worked on. Either powerplant would endow the SLK63 power to significantly better the performance on offer from today’s SLK55, which gets from rest to 62mph in 4.9 seconds – and using the V8 would potentially unlock as much as 540bhp from the baby roadster.
We’re expecting the SLK63 AMG to cost about £60,000 when it goes on sale next year – almost £10k up on the current model and within touching distance of the SL300.For more details click here.
