The new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic saloon and the hatchback will enter the Indian shores probably in the last quarter of this fiscal year. However,
it is being heard that General Motors, the US auto mobile manufacturer has begun its work on the compact utility vehicle of its already winning model Chevrolet Sonic. The new car is being targeted towards the potential increase of the compact SUV segment. This segment will stand out in the mileage efficiency and emission controls, its stringent rules across globe.
However, the Indian SUV czars Mahindra & Mahindra has set the stage for launching the compact SUV Mahindra Xylo which is expected to roll out very soon. The compact SUV segment holds a great potential. Other than the above mentioned launch, the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors is also speculated to launch Nissan Juke. If reviewing the Indian auto market, the compact SUV segment looks promising as these vehicles are mostly five seators which are well equipped to crush the bad roads and are promising enough to raise the fuel prices. It is highly being speculated that in the Indian auto segment, the SUV will be accepted with both hands.
Indian auto market, the most promising autosector globally has been achieving great success as in 2010 the growth mounted to 30 per cent. Most of the auto makers are investing in the sector and one of them is the parent company of Chevrolet, General Motors which putting in a whooping Rs 2000 crore investment for increasing its portfolio and enter the commercial vehicle (Cvs) segment. The auto giant don't wish to halt here. It will also introduce two vehicles based on the CVs platform including vans and trucks. Also it extensively plans to increase its portfolio by adding six new car models which will include two mid size sedans, two LCVs and a small car developed at the Indian technical centre.
