This is the first official sketch of the all-new Ford Focus-rivalling Hyundai i30, revealed ahead of its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Introduced in 2007, the first generation i30 was a huge sales success, and Hyundai claims the new car maintains the quality, practicality and value for money of the original while adding more style into the mix. It should also cope with the UK's notoriously bumpy roads, as it was designed and engineered specifically for European customers at Hyundai's Technical Centre in Russelheim, Germany.
Displaying the latest take on Hyundai's fluidic sculpture design language, the new i30 falls into line with other recent models such as the I40, ix35 and ix20. According to Thomas Bürkle, Hyundai's chief designer: “The hexagonal appearance is unique to Hyundai, with the jewel-like front headlamps which flank the grille adding a strong personality to the vehicle, as well as a sense of refinement and luxury.”
There's no technical details yet, we'll bring you those when the car bows in Frankfurt, but expect and ultra-efficient diesel model to dip below the 100g/km barrier, and a wide range of other oil-burners and petrol units to choose from.
Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented, “We expect this next-generation i30 to play a significant role in developing our brand image in Europe and strengthen the vehicle’s position as our best-seller in Europe. Since 2007, the name ‘i30’ has become synonymous with ‘quality’, ‘reliability’ and ‘low emissions’ in Europe, and we hope that, amongst others, the term “emotional appeal and style” will be added to the list with the introduction of this dynamic new model."
